Polygon Completes Coinme Acquisition to Expand Regulated U.S. Payments

October 14, 2026 | Bitcoin AI Update Business Desk

Polygon Labs has completed its acquisition of Coinme, a move intended to connect blockchain-based payments infrastructure with regulated U.S. money movement. Polygon said the acquisition gives its Open Money Stack coverage through money-transmitter licenses and exemptions spanning 48 U.S. states.

    What Polygon announced

In its October 14 announcement, Polygon said Coinme adds 37 state money-transmitter licenses and 11 exemptions. It identified Tazapay, Mesh, Toku and Kira among early customers adopting Open Money Stack for payments and payroll use cases.

The acquisition closes a part of a larger deal announced in January that also included Sequence. The stated ambition is to connect fiat money entering through banks, cards or cash deposits with on-chain transfers and eventual payouts to recipients.

    Why regulated access matters

Blockchain payment systems often face a practical challenge: digital transfers must connect to local banking rails, cash-in and cash-out providers, compliance processes and money-transmission rules. Licensing coverage could help a platform work with payment businesses across more U.S. jurisdictions, though actual services remain subject to applicable laws, partner arrangements and product availability.

    What remains to be proven

An acquisition and a list of early customers do not alone establish transaction volume, profitability or mainstream adoption. Relevant measures to watch include live customer deployments, transaction activity, settlement reliability, compliance performance and the number of markets where services become available.
